St Aidans Prayer Garden was designed and built with the aid of Mrs. Sue Healy. Designed for a quiet corner where a degree of tranquillity could be found, the garden has an aura of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of school life.

The design follows a biblical theme suitable for a Christian school and includes opposite themes of water and desert, light and shade. The planting includes plants used historically for healing purposes and to appeal to the senses of sight, touch and smell. Chosen with children in mind only thornless and non-poisonous varieties have been used. The garden comprises a central area with enough seating area for a group of up to 30 children and their parents where appropriate stories and music may be experienced. The project was supervised and completed by Sue within the allotted timescale and is enjoyed by the school in all weathers.

Throughout the design and construction phases Sue maintained a thoroughly professional, competent and positive attitude. She consulted at all times suggesting improvements to the design while remaining true to the criteria agreed. I recommend her services to others without the slightest hesitation. The fee for her professional services proved to be an investment that brought hours of pleasure to many.

“We have used Susan Healy’s expertise on two occasions. Firstly to provide a planting design for two beds in the front garden and secondly to design a raised patio area in our back garden.

We are delighted with the variety of plants used and the fact that there is colour in the garden all year round. We were quite clear in our brief that we did not want a ‘dead looking’ garden in the winter and we coupled this with a low maintenance remit. This has been achieved.

The patio design was particularly difficult because of varying ground levels, but, through her design and attention to detail, Susan has provided us with an ‘outdoor room’ which enhances the look of the house and is very easy to use.

We have been impressed with Susan’s professionalism; depth of knowledge concerning both planting and construction details, and have no hesitation in recommending her to any future clients”.

“Susan worked with us to design a garden meeting both our aspirations: a country garden, and, a formal garden. Her clever use of shrubs, paving and water features, gave us two gardens in one. She project managed the entire process from design to completion.

We would certainly recommend her to anyone.”

"From the moment Sue arrived at my house for our initial meeting she was taking inspiration for the final garden design from the styles in which I'd furnished and decorated my house.
Throughout the design process Sue regularly sought out my input, actively incorporating suggestions into the final design wherever possible. The entire process had a feeling of "partnership" about it, which, apart from resulting in a garden design, which was exactly what I wanted, engendered a real feeling of involvement and ownership towards the end result. Personally, I found the design process to be almost as satisfying as the finished product!
Sue helped in the selection of the quality workmen that built the garden, and took an active role in managing their progress throughout the construction. “On the fly" changes to plans were accommodated wherever possible, and the end result for me was absolutely fantastic; through clever use of space, angles and planting, my long narrow garden suddenly had the feeling of being twice the size!

I would definitely recommend Sue!

A mutual friend who knew we were interested in redesigning our tired old garden recommended Sue to us. With a plot of 2/3 rd of an acre we knew we had our work cut out.  Sue could see the enormity of the challenge but was undeterred and, as with all good project managers, she broke the challenge down into manageable pieces.

Discussions led to plans being presented and agreed before work began.  Contractors completed the hard landscaping work, and then Sue sourced and managed the planting of the borders.  The following summer the front garden was already a great success so we had no hesitation in Sue undertaking the much larger project of the back garden.

Again, discussions led to plans and plans led to works, some major. Two years on we have a fantastic garden, which is admired by everyone that visits, comprising a series of different areas each with their own look, feel and ambiance resulting in a garden that never becomes boring.  Each month new plants flower with the colours changing as the year goes by, the Roses and Clematis creep and entwine ever stronger about the Pergola, Arch and Gazebo.  Newts and frogs have appeared, five goldfish have become fifteen and the pond is now mature.  We never tire of having a wander round the garden and can't thank Susan enough for her ideas, execution and perseverance in creating what is now our beautiful garden.
